Question...if you have a player that you decide not to keep and you end up re-drafting him in another round, would that be considered a restart of the 3 years from then on or would the previous year that you had him count if you picked him up through draft and/or FA? Hopefully that makes sense... As soon as a player becomes available to the rest of the league via being dropped or not kept, his contract is terminated. Were you to redraft such a player, a fresh 3-year contract would begin. Now, I do see potential loopholes in such a rule. For example, this year Jack is drafting first. He could conceivably decide not to keep his 1st rounder from last year (Hanley) and then keep 5 other guys and simply redraft Hanley in the #1 spot, get a new contract for him, and effectively have 6 keepers for the year. Such are the benefits of finishing in last place, right, Jack? I'm kidding. There is also the loophole whereby someone drops someone of middling value toward the end of the season and re-adds them after they pass through waivers so that the player's value is potentially increased when kept in later rounds. This case I'm not as worried about since everyone has a clear shot at that player. So perhaps we need a rule to limit the first scenario from happening? I kinda feel that that's getting a bit too "rule-y" if you know what I mean. We don't want to end up with 20 pages of rules. The circumstances where doing something like that makes sense for a manager are somewhat limited IMO. If other league members have concerns about this subject, we could start a poll and potentially have a new rule. Well yeah, I really don't see any reason to keep Hanley because of my pick. I would then just pick whoever I think is the best player available whether it be Hanley or someone else (depends on the keepers). The person with the 2nd pick could pretty much do the same thing and worst case scenario that person is picking Hanley assuming they are fine with that. In the end it probably won't matter as we all know I am terrible at this. Although this year, I am having a new team, moving the team to a new city, and getting new uniforms. That should fix everything.

I was just using your case as a hypothetical example, since you do hold the #1 pick.
I also think your team last year was better than a last place team...but I think you caught a lot of bad luck.

Yeah, that's why I kept him for like, month or two ? Then they say he wont come up until september, I drop him and on the night he does come back (like a week later), my town has a power outage cuz of the thunderstorm and the rest is history...global conspiracy, man...

My 5 tentative keepers: Dustin Pedroia (2, 2nd) Adrian Beltre (2, 3rd) Jered Weaver (2, 4th) Ian Kennedy (2, 17th) Ricky Romero (2, 18th) Almost 100% certain these are my final keepers. Keeping 3 young, stud starting pitchers makes it extremely easy for me to forget about drafting starting pitcher for basically the first 10-13 rounds or so. And getting to hold onto two top 3 players at shallow-ish positions is great. Anthony...you get to keep ALL of these guys next year as well, AND will be able to still pick in the 1st this year and next! Quite a foundation.

BTW, Players you are the clear favorite right now with those keepers. Just so it's clear...you can keep Reyes and Kemp if you move one of them up into the 1st round. I'm sure you realize that, but just want to be sure. Also, please post contract years remaining for each keeper. Thanks.

bombadils keepers:
1-David Wright Would rather have him in the second round. I honestly think the Mets will be a tad better this year and he will put up better numbers.
2-Elvis Andrus Grey from Razz seems particularly high on him and since hes a short stop and 5th round why not.
3-Howie Kendrick Good grab here due to him being taken in 21st round and he qualifies for three positions. Hope his walk rate goes up this year.
4-Adam Jones 12th round, walks are better than people think, worth it.
5- Tim Lincecum Don't really want to give up the 2nd round for him. I'm big on streaming and using mid rp's but he is a stud.
