Sorry I held things up after midnight eastern. Just wasn't awake to make my pick.
Does Youk have any additional position eligibility anymore?

No worries Paul. Overnight on a long weekend...I don't consider that holding up the draft at all. Any picks that get made overnight I consider a bonus, myself.
I believe Youk is still 1b, 3b this year.

I wasn't thinking about Youk at third. Worried I reached a bit for A-Rod but it could pay off huge.

If A-Rod spends more time at DH and less at 3B, I think he can give you 90-30-100 with a .280 BA.
So basically, 3rd rd value.

I was wandering if I was gonna see Cain fall to me. Guess it's time for Axford or Bell

Man...so much pitching being drafted....never thought Beachy and Shields would be gone this early. :-(
Maybe I should have kept more of my pitchers from last year

Beachy was a surprise, with Doc and CJ, you kinda don't need any more pitching this early. Never would have guessed it

Watching the draft as basically an outsider since this is my first draft in this league is proving to be quite interesting. I'm surprised with how many pitchers are going considering it is so deep this year but it looks like a couple teams are going to be really solid there. Don't know how you compete offensively without getting at least a few offensive studs but it will be fun to see how those teams do during the season.

I was hoping bumgarner was gonna fall. He was one of the better second half pitchers last year. Good pick

I really think Beachy is a HUGE reach.
I understand that with so many keepers (especially ones so late in the draft that are sure fire 1st-5th rd draft picks) off the board, a lot of players being selected will not be truly worth the rounds drafted in (like McCann in the ....2nd I think?).....but Beachy, in my opinion, could have been grabbed in a few rounds and a more established, proven SP could have been had.
Either way, this will be the first year where we will have some truly CRAZY draft picks, and people who do not have a 1st rd keeper NEXT year will be rewarded, because a lot of plush players will go back into the draft pool (Pujols, Cano, Bautista, Votto, Halladay, etc.).

I'm completely stunned by the amount of pitching taken so far. No way I take a Matt Cain normally, and give up a good bit of draft position to do it. But I had a feeling most of the SP I was targetting would be gone before i picked again...and sure enough Bumgarner and Beachy are already gone now. The top guys left are all injury question marks. Cain got picked in the 4th last year, so I feel good getting him in the 5th (in fact he's pretty much been a 5th rounder in redraft leagues so far this year as well...considering most guys drafted so far are getting taken WAY ahead of slot due to late round keeper positions...makes me like where I got him even better). With QS rather than Ws, Cain must have been one of the most valuable pitchers in this league last year (he had 26 QS, 3rd in the majors). So I'm glad I got him. But like I said...no way I go after a pitcher like that normally. But a few teams are SO stacked pitchingwise that I felt I needed to keep up a little. I finished first in the regular season last year by having a potent offense, but I saw towards the trading deadline that I would have to acquire an ace or run the risk of my offense having a bad week and losing. So thats why Matt Kemp isnt on my team anymore...but i did get Hamels in return. Sure enough, in the finals I think I only won 2 hitting cats, but took 4 pitching cats and snuck away with it. There's something to be said for having a lockdown pitching core. I think having a few aces really stabilizes your pitching numbers week to week, whereas hitting can go cold for a week or more at a time.
Still, I'm pretty surprised by the pitching that is gone already.

Yeah it's the weekend...and a long weekend at that. Inevitable, really. It will pick up again. Slow drafts are frustrating at times...no question about it. Nature of the beast. I still really like having a slow draft as my first draft of the year, though.

I would like to point out that I would strongly prefer not to have so many pitchers on my team already. However, our owners (rightfully) kept most of the high-end hitters from last season. This means that after the 1st Round, the best hitters available are of the Matt Holliday/Drew Stubbs ilk while the pitchers available are Felix, Cliff Lee, Sabathia, etc. It's definitely not my intention to take so many pitchers early, but my hand has been forced somewhat. It will even out somewhere around Round 6 or 7 once the talent from the pitching side has been diluted down to match their hitter counterparts.

Well at this point we've fallen behind even last year's pace. Last year the first weekend made it through 7 rounds, and by the end of day 3, through 9 rounds.
I'm gonna chalk that up to the long weekend, but really had hoped we'd maintain a better pace.
