Fellow 3-Year Keeper League Fantasy Aficianados,
As we prepare for our Not-As-Slow draft, I’d like to invite you to also participate in a special Bizarro league, where a few pals and I try to draft really bad players. I suspect there may be a few lunatics in this group that would enjoy this sort of thing.
The format of the league is fairly standard - full season rotisserie style, with the same basic roster spots required. However, the league differs in that that the categories for compiled stats are very different.
For hitters, the categories are: Strikeouts (K), Caught Stealing (CS), Errors (E), Grounded Into Double Plays (GIDP), On-base Plus Slugging (OPS) and Grand Slams (SLAM).
For pitchers, the categories are: Losses (L), Blown Saves (BSV), Runs Allowed (R), Home Runs Allowed (HR), Strikeouts to Walk Ratio (K/BB) and Complete Games (CG).
It’s essentially golf scoring…you want players to get the worst of each categories (i.e most hitter strikouts, most errors, worst OPS, etc.). We threw in the Grand Slam and Complete Game categories as wild card categories to make it unpredictable and interesting until the end – an untimely gem from Aaron Harang or a Granny by Ramon Santiago might move you 5-6 points back in the final days.
A few other miscellanous setting notes – we tried to think this through a bit to make it playable:
- Transaction limit of 100 for the season: this is to limit, but not eliminate streaming (commit to at least a few garbage starters already!) and add a bit of a draft premium…want to reward some early self-crunched research on bottom of the barrel ballplayers. Remember the days before 15 ranking sites and daily notifications?
- 7 bench slots: to allow for a few more part-time players draft strategy and limit transactions required
- 142 games played max: as above, to allow for more games missed for your crummy, often pine-ridin’ hitters
- 1200 innings max: fairly low to allow for less innings from your skipped starters pitchers
I realize this may be a bit of a niche fantasy fetish, but we hope to get 8 participants, and there are currently at least 3 spots available. Please sign up and if you know anyone else interested in this deep dive of awful major leaguers, please let me know.
The league name theme is "Famous Disasters and Failures". Good luck.
